7 Mistakes that People Often Make During the New Year

1) Doing only cardio for the majority of your workout is a waste of time. Doing cardio for over an hour is too much. After a certain period of time you’re not burning fat anymore.

2) Doing ab exercises as your primary workout is a waste of time. All you’re doing is making the muscle on top of the fat harder. There’s no such thing as “spot reduction.” You have to burn the fat first before you can lose the stomach.

3) Buying exercise equipment for your home is a waste of money. If you’re not immersed in a workout environment, most likely you will rarely use equipment you buy for home use. It will sit there and collect dust, or be a clothes hanger.

4) Don’t lift weights that you can’t handle. Most likely you will get hurt and repeatedly injure yourself every few months. You’ll see the best results when you focus on form and execute the exercise correctly.

5) Buying certain supplements, weight loss pills and certain diets can harm your body. If your primary goal is to lose weight, you need to change what and how you eat.  There are other foods alternatives that can help you reach your goal. If you’re not working out properly or on a consistent basis, supplements won’t work. Focus on learning how to eat healthier rather than the quick fix.

6)  Don’t take bad advice. Speak to a professional with anything concerning your body including fitness. What works for someone else might not work for you.

7) Don’t procrastinate about getting started! People make time for things that are important to them. Treat fitness like it’s mandatory for your attendance.

I cheated and looked at ask.com–and got a complicated answer. So, FYI, have fun with this:
Forty-five percent of Americans usually set New Year’s Resolutions; seventeen percent infrequently set resolutions; thirty-eight percent never set resolutions

Eight percent are always successful in achieving their resolutions; nineteen percent achieve their resolutions every other year; forty-nine percent have infrequent success; twenty-four percent (one in four) never succeed and have failed on every resolution every year.

Forty-seven percent set resolutions related to self-improvement or education

Thirty-eight percent set resolutions related to weight

Thirty-four percent set resolutions related to money

Thirty-one percent set resolutions related to relationships

The younger you are, the more likely you are to achieve your resolutions (thirty-nine percent of those in their twenties achieve their resolutions every year or every other year, while less than fifteen percent of those over fifty achieve their resolutions every year or every other year)

The less happy you are, the more likely you are to set New Year’s resolutions (this is especially true for those who set money-related resolutions: forty-one percent are not happy; thirty-four percent are moderately happy; twenty-five percent are happy)

There is actually no correlation between happiness and resolution setting/success (people who achieve their resolutions every year are no happier than those who do not set resolutions or who are unsuccessful in achieving them)

A…no one stays with their new year’s resolution!!

  6. AE

The answer is A…..I make all the above mistakes…. Thank you for pointing them out!
